Happy Thanksgiving 🇨🇦🍁🦃

VESA | October Newsletter

As the seasons change and we transition into the winter months; we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your participation and support throughout the year. It has been an incredible 2023.

Together, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones - traveled to Mont Tremblant, Montreal and Vancouver. We created a strong sense of camaraderie within our tennis community. More places and bigger news are yet to come!

VESA Tennis Program / Event Updates

This was the last week of Fall session programming at RLTC & DARA! We’ve been spoiled with sun + summer temperatures at the end of the season. Thank you all for playing with us, but the fun doesn’t end here… As long as weather permits, we will be running ad-hoc private & group lessons at both locations.

For lesson inquiries or any other questions contact us at: info@vesaconsulting.org

VESA LAVER CUP 2023 TRIP ✈️

This yearly premier tennis event comes to Canada for the first time! 3 days of high-quality tennis between Team World vs Team Europe. Many legends of our sport in attendance including Rod Laver, Roger Federer, John McEnroe & Bjorn Borg. A quick 4.5 hr flight from YOW to YVR, we arrived the night before the start of the event. Assembled the crew and make our way to the Rogers Arena, home of the Vancouver Canucks. We were very impressed by the logistics and organization of the event, accessible by train/car, short queues, reasonably priced food/beverages, as well as top-notch audio/video.

In regards to the tennis, there were some high-quality matches on display. Match highlights: Ruud vs Tommy Paul, Hurkacz/Monfils vs FAA/Shelton, Hurkacz/Rublev vs Tiafoe/Shelton. The interview with Roger Federer by Jim Courier was quite entertaining as well. In the end, Team World dominated with individual and team performances by a score of 13-2. Next stop…Berlin 2024 🔜 🇩🇪

Join us for the last event of 2023!

RSVP by Friday, October 20th.

Ankle mobility

Exercises for tennis players

Clay, cement, hard court? Ankles take a beating no matter what surface. In past newsletters, we’ve talked about the importance of footwear for proper foot/ankle support. In this month’s edition, we are sharing a video talking about how to keep those ankles happy & healthy.

How to cope with disappointment in sport

Whether you are a competing in tournaments or playing recreationally at your club, it’s important to understand the challenges (physical and/or mental) that you’ll face along the way. It can be a tough loss, nagging injury or simply frustrated with your progress - they can all contribute to an unpleasant experience. We are here to help by providing resources and scientifically proven methods.

In recent years, there’s been a greater acknowledgment and awareness towards mental health in sport. Which not only affects professional athletes, but also club players and everything in between. In 2022, Tennis Canada launched the Mental Health Timeout, an initiative to continue to improve the well-being of all individuals in the sports community and be an agent of change. The ambassadors for 2023 are Bianca Andreescu, Alex Galarneau & Rob Shaw.

In this article, Dr. Kevin Chapman (PhD - Clinical Psychologist & Founder of The Kentucky Center of Anxiety and Related Disorders) shares ways to cope with — and move beyond — disappointment.

Closing remarks

We want to remind everyone that we will not be conducting private coaching sessions this winter at RSC. They are heading in a new direction and wouldn’t come to terms with us on a new contract. We are confident this temporary pause will allow us to shift our focus on further improving our offerings for 2024 and beyond. Looking forward to seeing you at the end of season event!
