🇨🇦 Dabrowski & 🇳🇿 Routliffe
2023 Women’s Doubles Champions! 🏆🎾

VESA | September Newsletter

After Sunday’s final, Ottawa’s Gaby Dabroswki becomes the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam Women’s Doubles Title. A successful partnership with Erin Routliffe (raised in Caledon, Ontario), which coincidentally began at the National Bank Open Tournament in Montreal. A few weeks later, they are crowned champions and the duo qualified among the top 8 teams for November’s season-ending WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico.

We are immensely proud of Gaby - her accomplishments, and the impact on the Ottawa and Canadian Tennis community. An exemplary player on / off the court, which Jorge Sr had the pleasure of working with back in her junior days at the Ottawa Athletic Club. We look forward to seeing this duo in November!

All strung up… Part #2 🤪

Strings / racquet advice from the experts…

Equipment / tip of the month

String tension in tennis plays a crucial role in determining a player's performance and feel on the court. String tension refers to the tightness of the strings in a tennis racket.

⁃ Higher tension provides more control and precision in shots, making it ideal for players who generate a lot of power naturally.

⁃ Lower tension offers increased power and a more forgiving response, suitable for players seeking extra depth and spin in their shots.

⁃ Choosing the right string tension involves considering individual playing style, skill level, and racket characteristics. Advanced players often prefer higher tensions to maximize control, while beginners and intermediate players might benefit from lower tensions to aid in shot consistency. Experimenting with different string tensions can help players fine-tune their game to find the perfect balance between power and control for optimal performance on the tennis court.
